What This Position Is All About: The Omni Merchandise Director is responsible for driving the performance and merchandising strategy of the total category to achieve financial objectives (including sales, gross margin and inventory targets). Strategies will be supported by analysis of metrics and current market trends to deliver actionable insights and recommendations that drive the Saks OFF 5TH Omni business, while also fueling digital growth.

You Also Have:

  • BA/BS Degree
  • 5-7 years of experience in ecommerce and/or buying/planning with 1+ years managerial experience
  • Familiarity with site analytics tools (e.g., Omniture, Google Analytics, Core metrics) and with content management tools
  • Technical aptitude with web-based tools and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Must demonstrate business acumen and analytical skills
  • Have an understanding of and passion for digital retail landscape
  • Ability to multitask and achieve deadlines in an efficient, timely, and accurate manner


As The Omni Merchandise Director, you will:

Category Strategy

  • Support 2 DMMs and 2 Planning DVPs to achieve the sales, margin and inventory plans for the product categories through analysis and development of targeted action plans and partnership with merchant team •
  • Lead digital strategy for product categories inclusive of item count, assortment guidelines and content • Provide recommendations on navigation, taxonomy, filtering and product boosting; partner with digital operations & site experience team to execute
  •  Reviews inventory content behind specific value messages and collaborates with Digital Strategy & Marketing teams to execute against key messages


Reporting & Analysis

  • Analyzes business performance using key reports (sales, GM, inventory, item count) and executes strategies to improve results
  • Analyze the purchase and conversion funnel to better optimize the customer journey; partners with digital operations & site experience teams to execute changes
  • Reviews Not-on-Site report and collaborates with Buying teams to determine SKUs to prioritize for set up; partners with merchandising operation teams to optimize business and resolve issues
  • Prepares materials for regular business meetings, monthly open-to-buy, and merchant strategy sessions. Materials include sales results, inventory, site analytics, SKU information, etc.


Competitive Landscape

  • Identifies key opportunities to drive product categories by using landscape scanning tools (Style Sage, Google Trends, etc)
  • Monitors competitive landscape to identify opportunities for Saks OFF 5TH business (e.g. new brands, expanded classifications, etc)


Team Collaboration

  • Serves as critical partner to 2 DMMs and 2 Planning DVPs in driving relevant areas of business, with Omni channel focus
  • Collaborates with merchant teams to bring to life key merchandising strategies that will drive digital business
  • Works cross-functionally with marketing and digital operations / site experience teams to execute against key strategies (e.g. on site navigation, item set up, marketing content, etc)
  • Collaborates with HBC Tech / SEO lead to optimize natural search results for product areas
  • Lead, mentor & develop direct report
